School Betting Education Call – 11 April 2012

Published on Apr 10 2012 // Chalk Talk

Clubs Australia produces a submission to parliament to provide betting education in schools.

A peak industry body representing the interests of Australia’s 4000 clubs has called on state and federal governments to introduce a national trial of gambling and betting education programs to schools around the country.

Clubs Australia which helped to defeat poker machine reforms in Australia has put forward a submission to a parliamentary inquiry looking into problem gambling.  It is hoping to create a school-based awareness program focusing on betting and gambling education which can be easily integrated into current school programs surrounding financial knowledge and personal health.

They say that young people are greatly at risk of becoming problem gamblers especially with the huge surge in online gambling.

The submission states that the social costs of problem gambling are much smaller than for other public issues relating to drug and alcohol abuse, smoking, and obesity.

Clubs Australia has also recommended a ban on betting agencies which offer free bets and inducements while also restricting companies to give credit to gamblers.  The advertisement of betting was also highlighted as concerns in society have been voiced over the rampant use of all forms of media to promote betting.

In the view of SportChalk we definitely agree that some people take gambling far too seriously and the problems this can cause to the family unit and society can be quite dangerous.

Our readers will note the huge emphasis the website places on providing betting education to the millions of sports bettors around the world.

At SportChalk we are very strongly against poker machines, casinos, and horse racing.  Sports betting on the other hand, provided the bettor is educated and understands the correct approach is a totally different genre to other forms of gambling or betting.

Unlike the other forms of betting, with sports the advantage can lie solely with the bettor.  There is no house advantage, so it comes down to the individual bettor being educated and making smart and sensible decisions.

Having a betting strategy, understanding betting psychology, and using correct criteria is all a big part of coming to terms with betting education.  This is nothing new, but it is just a shame that the masses are unaware of what it really takes to eliminate these problems and move forward.

There already is a betting school available here on the website for those interested in reading what it is all about.  It’s free and it is here to educate sports bettors about adopting correct techniques which can help them to follow the right path.

If anyone feels they need help with their gambling or betting because it is leading to problems in their personal, family, or social lives make sure you seek out the appropriate government and community organisations which can help you overcome your problems.  Gambling can be a real menace so if it’s causing you frustration, anger, and resentment do something about it as soon as possible.
